“Some Joy, Some Hope, A Spark” This mural was created to spotlight the effervescent joy, brightness, and community that persist in Chinatown, San Francisco. Chinatown has always been a beacon of community, joy, and great food, and Liu wanted to showcase that spirit within this mural. Valerie was inspired by the current community in Chinatown, as well as by Liu’s fond memories of growing up and coming to Chinatown for pastries with family and friends. 41 Ross is a community art space presented by the Chinese Cultural Center of San Francisco Chinatown. The aspiration for this mural is to bring joy and hope to viewers, reminding them of the beauty of Chinatown, San Francisco. In a world that often feels fragmented, Chinatown stands as a beacon to the strength found in collective community, and through this mural, Liu aims to spotlight the radiant joy and hopes that continues to flourish here.
